SOMERS, N.Y. - Parents of Somers teens are invited to attend an encore presentation on current drug-use trends among teenagers on Thursday with experts from the Student Assistance Services in Tarrytown.

Andrea Fallick and Judy Mezey will talk about how parents can help reduce risk factors, increase prevention factors and support their teens in making healthier choices in the presentation, which is sponsored by the Somers High School PTSA and the Somers Middle School PTA.

“Many parents have no clue,” said Linda Morgante, president of the high school PTSA. “They’ll get inside knowledge about the language kids are using for drugs, words they wouldn’t know otherwise. For example, the expression ‘4:20’ is a symbol for getting high. It could be a time or a date. It’s a buzz word so people don’t know what they’re talking about. The radar should be on, so you can intervene.”

The Student Assistance Services presented a similar talk in October but many parents were unable to attend, Morgante explained.

“They’re thrilled that we’re doing it again,” she said.

The presentation will take place in the Somers High School Library on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. For further information, contact Teresa Lombardi at Lombardidt@aol.com or Linda Morgante at Lindamorgante@optonline.net
